William Kenneth Kerr passed away on August 15, 2021 at Franciscan Health Lafayette, IN. Bill was born on May 9, 1928, in Putnamville, IN to the late Beryl and Charles R. Kerr. Bill attended elementary schools in Greencastle and in Attica. He graduated from Greencastle High School in 1946. He attended Purdue while beginning work at the Lafayette Post Office on November 16, 1947. He retired from the Post Office on June 30, 1989, after 42 years. During those years he served as a mail clerk, window clerk, supervisor, and acting postmaster at Cayuga and Kentland. Mr. Kerr was in the US. Army, serving in the Korean War in the 179 Infantry as part of the Oklahoma National Guard from October, 1950 until October 1952. He was honorably discharged in 1956. He was a founding member and a charter member of the Tippecanoe Federal Credit Union, serving as treasurer for many years and was on the Board of Directors for 50 years. For over ten years, Bill served as President of the local NARFE Chapter 0330. He also was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, having been a member of the fund-raising campaign to build the church. Bill also was on the original fund-raising campaign in 1955-56 to finance the building of Central Catholic High School. Bill had been a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church from 1946 until Blessed Sacrament was built. He has been a member of St. Boniface Church since 1963. Bill was a Purdue fan and enjoyed attending Purdue sporting events. He also enjoyed watching his sons and grandchildren in their various activities and celebrated their many accomplishments. One of his fondest memories was taking the Honor Flight in April, 2016. On October 19, 1963, Bill married Elsie J. Gillis at St. Mary’s Church in Dunkirk, IN. She survives. Also surviving are four sons: William V. (Gina) Kerr of Lafayette, Gregory J. (Kari) Kerr, M.D. of Greenwood, Theodore E. (Trina) Kerr of Woodbridge, VA, and Timothy P (Andrea) Kerr of West Lafayette, IN. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Kaitlin of Chicago, IL; Garrett of Lafayette; Collin, Elizabeth, and Elsie of Greenwood, IN. Henry of Milan, IL; and Juliette, Zachary, and Brady of West Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are his brothers: John R (Laurel) Kerr of Brownsburg and Mike Kerr of Indianapolis. Four brothers: Charles R Kerr, Paul Donald Kerr, and twins James Kerr and Joseph Kerr, and sister Martha Lawless are deceased. Visitation will take place at St. Boniface Catholic Church on Thursday August 19 from 9:30 to 10:30 AM with the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM, Father Jeff Martin presiding. Burial will take place at Black Cemetery near Albany, IN. Memorials may be given to St. Boniface Church, St. Boniface School, Central Catholic High School, or Purdue University’s School of Engineering or School of Agriculture or the PMO.
