William D. "Bill" Elston, 89 of West Lafayette died 11:56am Sunday, August 1, 2010 at his residence. He was born July 25, 1921 in Monon, IN to the late Edward & Elsie Strong Elston. He attended school in Monon. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in 358th Infantry Regiment during WWII from 1942-43. On October 25, 1942 he married Dora L. Denton at Valparaiso and she survives. Mr. Elston farmed for 11 years before moving to West Lafayette and had worked in the sales field. Mr. Elston was a painter at Purdue for 10 years retiring in 1977. He attended Weaver Chapel Church, West Lafayette where he helped with the upkeep until August 2009 when his health began to fail. He was lovingly cared for by Guardian Angel Hospice, his wife, son, and grandson.
Surviving with his wife are his daughters, Katherine L. Flanagan of Holden, ME, Nancy L. Verrill (Bruce) of Exeter, ME, Rebecca S. McDougal (Michael) of Ft. Wayne, IN; a son, Daniel D. Elston of Lafayette, IN; a sister, Patricia Bunkowfist (John) of Lowell and a brother, Carl G. Elston (Trish) of St. Petersburg, FL.
Friends may call from 9 a.m. until time of Service 10:00 a.m. Friday August 6, 2010 at Weaver Chapel, 4100 Jackson Highway, West Lafayette, IN with Rev. Dr. Ernie Elder officiaing. Entombment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens with military rites by American Legion Post 492.
Also surviving are 12 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren & 2 great-great-grandchildren. Memorials may be made to Weaver Chapel or Guardian Angel Hospice,1221 South Creasy Lane, Lafayette.
