Wilbur M. Tarter, 91, of Lafayette, died at The Springs of Lafayette 5:04 AM Wednesday August 24, 2016 where he had been a resident since December. Wilbur was born in Monticello, IL October 1, 1924, the son of the late Virl and Grace Foster Tarter and attended Boswell and Ambia, IN schools. He served in the US Army 17th Airborne Division during the Battle of the Bulge during World War II. He married Jessie J. Prather at Fowler, IN December 28, 1945 and she preceded him in death March 28, 2015. Wilbur was employed for the US Postal Service as a clerk, retiring in 1985 and was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ, Latter Day Saints. Surviving are two sisters, Lucille Cooper and Bernice Norfleet both of Lafayette and a brother, Jack Tarter also of Lafayette. He was preceded in death by a son, Russell W. Tarter and a sister, Annetta Darlene Tarter. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home from 9:30 AM until the funeral service at 10:30 AM Saturday August 27, Bishop James Garner officiating. The interment will follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, with military rites by American Legion Post 11. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice.
