Wayne S. Anderson, 86, of Linden, IN. died at Clarian-Arnett Hospital in Lafayette, IN. 7:33 P.M. Tuesday January 19, 2010 where he had been a patient the past week. Born in Hillsdale, IN. September 26, 1923, the son of the late Donald and Mauriene Shew Anderson, he was reared by his uncle and aunt, Roy and Mildred Pollock from the age of nine in Crawfordsville, IN. Mr. Anderson was a graduate of Crawfordsville High School in 1942, and received his degree in forestry from Purdue University in 1950. He married Catherine Jane "CJ" Warren in Lafayette, IN. in 1948, and she died January 1967. He later married Celestina "Chuckie" Pacilio Chidalek at Knox, Indiana in August of 1968, and she died May, 1995. Mr. Anderson served in the U.S. Army, World War II, 3rd Army, 249th Engineer Combat Battalion during the Battle of the Bulge. He was a member of the Darlington American Legion post for over 50 years; and was also a member of the VFW, American Legion and 40 & 8 Posts of Crawfordsville. Mr. Anderson was a 50 year member of the Linden-New Richmond Masonic Lodge, as well as a member of the Order of Eastern Star; Scottish Rite, Valley of Indianapolis and the Elks of Crawfordsville. He served on the board of directors for TipMont REMC for 15 years; attended Congress St. United Methodist Church in Lafayette, and was a member of the Democratic Party. Mr. Anderson was employed as a district director for the Farmers Home Administration for 23 years, retiring in 1985, and also farmed in the Linden area for over 50 years. Surviving are 2 daughters, Catherine S. Smith (husband Randy) of Linden, IN.; Kathleen M. Miller (husband Dr. David) of Midlothian, VA.; 3 sons, William "Smokey" Anderson (wife Sue) of Linden, IN.; Eric D. Anderson (companion Laura Volkman) of Hammond, IN.; Steven J. Chidalek (wife Linda) of Linden, IN,; 2 brothers Howard R. Anderson of Los Angeles, Ca.; C. Max Anderson of Indianapolis, IN.; and a sister, Doris R. Monce (husband Gene) of Spring Valley, CA. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother Donald Richard Anderson. The family will receive friends at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home from 4 until 8 P.M. Friday. A Celebration of Wayne's life will be held at the funeral home 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Dr. Will Miller officiating, with military rites by the 40&8, VFW and American Legion Post of Crawfordsville.
