Walter Yost

Walter J. Yost, 79, of Lafayette, lovingly known as "Mr. Fix-it", died at his residence on Thursday evening, October 2, 2014. He was born in Lafayette on September 9, 1935, the son of the late Earl A. and Sadie B. Larimore Yost. He attended Jefferson High School through his junior year, graduated from Klondike High School, and then attended Purdue University. Walter joined the U. S. Navy in 1955 and was honorably discharged with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class in 1959. He was employed at National Homes Corporation from 1953 until retiring in 1985 and then employed at Purdue University Facilities Planning from 1985 until retiring in 2002. Walter was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church and a former member of the Lafayette Breakfast Optimist Club and the Knights of Columbus. Surviving is his wife, Judi (Buit) Yost, along with two sons, Tony Yost of Encinitas, CA and Larry Yost (wife Julia) of Portsmouth, NH; a daughter, Anne Siples (husband Larry) of Brazil, IN; two brothers, Donald Yost (wife Joyce) of Lafayette and Kenneth Yost (wife Londa) of Warsaw, IN, and a sister, Earlene Cunningham (husband Jim) of Lafayette. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Jacqui and A.J. Yost, Colin Yost, and Justin, Morgan and Ashlyn Siples. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and Ronald Yost. Friends may call at St. Boniface Catholic Church from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM on Wednesday October 8th with Father Tim Alkire officiating. The interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery, with military rites by American Legion Post 11.
