Vivian Yarnal

Vivian L. Yarnal, 90, of Lafayette, formerly of Otterbein, died at St. Elizabeth East 3:30 PM Sunday April 27, 2014. She was born near Oxford, IN. September 11, 1923, the daughter of the late Lee and Myrtle Sturgeon Copas and was a 1941 graduate of Pine Village High School. Vivian married Charles Yarnal November 8, 1941, and he preceded her in death in September, 1994. She was employed at Purdue University in the Ag E Con and Computer Science Department., and later was employed at the Thompson Drug Store in Otterbein and the Otterbein Public Library. Vivian was a member and past president of the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary Unit 125 of Otterbein, and enjoyed reading, crocheting, cross-stitching, music, and was a member of the Care and Sharing Granny Band of Otterbein. Surviving is a daughter, Patricia Costin of Manassas, VA.; two sons, Charles E. “Gene” Yarnal (wife Colleen) of Lafayette; James Michael Yarnal (wife Deborah) of Crawfordsville, IN.; two sisters, Vera Nelson of West Lafayette, IN.; Janet Sue Logan of San Angelo, TX.; and two brothers, Steve Copas of Tyler TX.; and Norman Copas of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Royce Costin; two sisters, Helen McBeath and Marivene Rasmussen; and by five brothers, Melvin, Charles, Donald, Lee, Jr. and Cecil Copas. Graveside services will be held at Pond Grove Cemetery near Otterbein 1:30 PM Saturday, Larry McMillan officiating. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Charity of the donor’s choice.
