Very Rev. Fr. Gerald J. Borawski, 77, of Lafayette passed away Saturday July 10, 2021 at Creasy Springs Health Center in Lafayette, IN. Fr. Borawski was born Sept. 6, 1943 in Cleveland, OH the son of the late Joseph and Florence (Pzeracki) Borawski. He was a graduate of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, OH and attended Boromeo Seminary in Euclid, OH and Orchard Lake Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI. He was ordained June 3, 1972, and served parishes in the Diocese-of-Lafayette-in-Indiana from 1972 until he was granted retirement in 2014. Among those parishes were St. Ambrose in Anderson; Cathedral of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Lafayette; Sacred Heart, Cicero; St. Ann, Monterey; St. John the Baptist in Tipton; St. Mary in Frankfort, and Our Lady of the Lakes in Monticello. In 2002 he was honored by the Bishop of the Diocese of Lomza, Poland with the title Very Reverend Canon of the Capitular Church of the Most Holy Trinity in Myszyniec, Poland. Fr. Borawski was twice granted bi-ritual faculties in the Ukraine, Byzantine Rite of the Catholic Eparchy of St. Nicholas in Chicago for Ukranians, and was a member of the Fourth Degree, Knights of Columbus. Surviving are two brothers, Thomas Borawski, Sr. (wife Lynn) of Parma Heights, OH; William Borawski of Cleveland, OH; two nieces, Amanda Anderson and Lisa Borawski and two nephews, Thomas Borawski, Jr and John A. Borawski (wife Catherine). Friends may call from 4 until 7 PM Thursday July 15 at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral, Lafayette, IN 11:00 AM Friday July 16, Bishop Timothy L. Doherty and Clergy of the Diocese-in-Lafayette officiating.
