Thelma Neal

Thelma S. Neal, 82, of Lafayette, died at her residence 3:00 AM Wednesday September 7, 2016. Thelma was born in Benton County, IN near Oxford July 19, 1934, the daughter of the late William and Shirley Hickman Neal. She was a 1952 graduate of Oxford High School, and a 1955 graduate of the St. Elizabeth Hospital School of Nursing in Lafayette where she received her Register Nurse Degree. Thelma was employed as a registered nurse for Dr. Charles Rutherford, then Dr. Donald McKinney and finally St. Elizabeth Hospital, retiring in 1999. She was a member of the Oxford United Methodist Church, WSCS, Order of Eastern Star at Oxford, St. Elizabeth School of Nursing Alumni, and a former member of the advisory boards of Otterbein Nursing Home and the Otterbein Ambulance Service. Surviving are six nieces, Ellen Meade (Ron) of Glen Allen, VA; Peg Baird (Dave) Neenah, WI; Teresa Canganelli of Natchitoches, LA; Jan Reik (Bill) of Indianapolis, IN; Joanne Parman of Cary, NC and Monica Canganelli of Lafayette, IN; by 4 nephews, Keith Neal (Blayre) of Hanover, IN; Tony Canganelli (Gail) of Laughlin, NV; Pat Canganelli (Susan) of Delphi, IN; Mark Canganelli of Westminster, CO and a very special friend, Shirley Settlemyre of Lafayette. She was preceded in death by two brothers, Keith and Lynden "Spud" Neal, and by one sister, Beverly Canganelli. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Oxford from 4 until 7 PM Friday. The funeral service will be held at the Oxford United Methodist 10:30 AM Saturday, with visitation one hour prior to the service, Pastor Linda Sproull officiating, with the interment at Oxford West Cemetery.
