Seth Lawrence Karlzen, 80, passed away on Sunday, November 7, 2021 surrounded by his
family in Wheatland, Wyoming. Seth was born on Saturday, May 3, 1941 in Chicago Heights,
Illinois, the son of Lawrence and Anna (Bellone) Karlzen. As a boy growing up, he was always
working. He had a variety of jobs, including working at a circus, at a funeral home, and
running errands for the girls on the Rockford Peaches Women's Professional Baseball team.
His family moved to Lafayette, Indiana where he met and married his wife, Ginger, of fifty-
two years. After an enlistment in the United States Navy, he learned about electricity,
becoming an aviation technician. He liked to regale you with his antics and adventures, of
which there were many, during his service. He went on to become a master electrician, wiring
different buildings and businesses in many states, retiring from the Laramie River Station
power plant. He was able to repair anything.
Seth had many hobbies including flying remote-controlled planes, riding motorcycles, and
fishing at the family cottage. One of his passions was his love of music. As a boy, he sang in the
choir at the Catholic church. He played the trumpet and coronet. He entertained his family
with his Elvis impressions on the piano and a rousing edition of Adam's Pants, to the delight of
his family. He taught himself to play the guitar and fiddle. He loved playing with his group for
the nursing home and other functions. Seth was a member of the Torrington Fiddlers
Association and very much enjoyed playing and entertaining at Fort Laramie, Wyoming.
Throughout his lifetime Seth was very generous, giving to several charities.
Seth was preceded in death by his wife, Ginger; parents; sister, Diane; and brothers, Kurt and
Douglas.
He is survived by his three daughters, Annie Karlzen, Ginny (George) Bare, and Kara Williams;
seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. A rosary service will start at 10:30 AM
with a Mass of Christian Burial to follow at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette on Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 11 AM.
