Ruth Barron Kent, 96, of Lafayette, and formerly of Marshall, MO., died at Mulberry Health & Retirement Community 8:32 PM Monday August 16, 2010. She was born near Marshall, Mo. in Saline County October 6, 1913, the daughter of the late George Arthur and Emma Jane Wingfield Barron, and was a graduate of Marshall (MO.) High School. Ruth married Martin Henry "Duke" Kent in Marshall, MO. April 17, 1948, and he preceded her in death in 1987. She worked as a legal secretary for the Rollings & Johnson Law firm, and later worked for the Missouri State School for the handicapped. Ruth and her husband also owned and operated Kent Liquor Store in Marshall. She was a member of St. Peter's Catholic Church and the St. Peter's Altar and Rosary Society in Marshall, and attended St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette. Ruth moved to Lafayette to be close to her family, and her sister, Mildred Blanche Harrison, who preceded her in death. Two brothers, Elmer and Raymond Barron also preceded her in death. Surviving are 2 nieces, Vicki J. Royer (husband Sam) of Lafayette, IN.; Jane Stubbs of Seattle, WA.; 3 nephews, Roger Harrison (wife Lupe) of Lafayete, IN.; Joseph Harrison (wife Cinda) of Westville, IN.; and George E. Barron (wife Claudia) of Oshkosh, WI.; Great-nieces and nephews, Scott Royer(wife Evelyn) and children Elisa and Samantha; Michelle Nagler (husband Oscar) and daughter Katherine Marie; Shawn Harrison and sons Kenau and Kekoa; Shannon Harrison and children Kalani and Kalea; Sheena Bothroyd (husband Joey) and children Ikaika and Island; David Stubbs, Chad Harrison (wife Vicki) and daughter Nevenah; and Kendall Harrison. Ruth considered the staff and residents at Mulberry Health & Retirement as her family also. Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 10 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM (EDT) Friday, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Graveside services will be held at Ridge Park Cemetery in Marshall, MO. 11:00 AM Saturday (CDT) Fr. Kevin Gormley officiating.
