Russell Brown

Russell K. Brown, 78, of rural Fowler, IN. died at his residence 12:50 P.M. Monday August 17, 2009. He was born August 28, 1930 in Niagra Falls, New York the son of the late Kenneth R. and Leona Harms Brown. Mr. Brown was educated in the Lewiston, New York school system and graduated from Michigan State University with a degree in landscape and nursery management. He served in the U.S. Airforce from 1949 until 1953. He married Marie M. Inglehart on March 10, 1956 in Grimsby, Ontatio, Canada, and she survives. Mr. Brown worked for nurseries in New York state, and Michigan before taking a position with the grounds department at Purdue University where he worked for 35 years, most of which were in the positions of assistant then superintendent of grounds. He raised hogs in Tippecanoe County and was a member of the Pork Producers as well as being an active member of the Farm Bureau. The family moved to Benton County in 1991 where he farmed and started a wholesale greenhouse business, mainly annuals, perennials and tomato plants. Mr. Brown was of the Protestant faith, and his hobby was restoring antique cars and trucks. Surviving with his wife are 2 sons, Michael L. Brown (wife Robin) of Oxford; Darryl W. Brown (wife Karlanea) of Fowler; and a brother, George Brown of Lewiston, New York. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Colton, Audra, Lydia and Levi; cousins Gary Brown and Tina (husband Brian) Deters of Florida. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, Oxford from 5 until 8 PM Wednesday. Private services and entombment will be held at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
