Roy R. “Bob” Erwin, Jr. 90, of Lafayette, passed away at The Springs of Lafayette 3:20 AM Wednesday July 5, 2017 where he had been a patient the past two weeks. Bob was born in Lafayette October 27, 1926, the son of the late Roy R. Erwin, Sr. and Ethel C. Carter Erwin. He attended Lafayette Jefferson High School, and served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the Philippines. Bob married Anna G. “Jerrie” Friend at Lafayette November 2, 1946, and she preceded him in death January 10, 2002. He was a life member of VFW Post 1154; the 40 & 8, Voiture 364 and former member of American Legion Post 492. He enjoyed watching horse racing, playing euchre, playing golf and listening to country music. Bob was a member of Local 157 of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union for 28 years before his retirement. Surviving are three daughters, Cheryl Weaver, Debra Moffatt and Suzanne Dickison (husband James) all of Lafayette, IN; and by two sisters, Nina Lawson of Henderson, NV and Bette Gear of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Allen Bell, Jesse, Kevin and Scott Moffatt, Heather Dick and Elizabeth Thompson; and by 9 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by a son, Michael Erwin; a daughter, Lynne Erwin; a granddaughter, Trina Fountain and by three sisters, Dorothy Bowman, Carol Funk and Shirley Platt. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 9:00 AM until the 40 & 8 Poppy Service at 10:45 AM followed by the funeral service at 11:00 AM Saturday July 8, Pastor Lucia Oerter officiating.
