Rose Anthrop

Rose Frances Anthrop, 94, of West Lafayette, died at 3:00p.m. Wednesday, May 23, 2012 at St. Elizabeth Hospital. She was born September 23, 1917 in Montmorenci to the late Cornelius and Mary (Robrock) Vanderkolk. She attended St. Lawrence School and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1935.
Her marriage was to Gerry J. Anthrop at St. Lawrence Church on August 16, 1941. He preceded her in death on November 6, 2003.
She was a homemaker and was employed 10 years in the Purdue Dairy Department before her marriage and during World War II. She was also the Activities Director at the Tippecanoe Villa from 1974 to 1983.
She was a member of St. Lawrence and Blessed Sacrament Church.
She was an active community volunteer. She served on the St. Lawrence school board, parish council, and president of the Mothers Club and Altar and Aid Society. She served as the president of the Ladies Guild of Central Catholic High School, Diocesan International Chairman and treasurer of the Council of Catholic Women. She was a member of the Postal Workers Auxiliary, Ladies of Charity and St. Rita Study Club of Blessed Sacrament Church, the 21st Century Club and Academic Booster Club of Central Catholic Junior/Senior High School. She volunteered at the Lafayette Area Catholic Schools garage sales for tuition assistance. She also volunteered, in the Gold Ladies Program of the Tippecanoe County Mental Health Association, at the Tippecanoe County Villa; she and her sister Betty Niccum sponsored monthly holiday programs at St. Anthony Heath Care Facility for many years. She compiled a book of monthly party ideas for health care facilities.
She received a Pleasant Grove community award for community service in 1977, Mental Health Association of Indiana volunteer awards in 1975 and 1995, Gold Ladies Mental Health Association award in 1985 and a St. Lawrence Distinguished Graduate Award in 2004.
Rose enjoyed reading, growing flowers, listening to WGN radio and watching football, basketball and baseball games - especially those of her Knight grandsons - Jade, Dru, Danny and Jackson Anthrop.
Surviving are her children Joseph, Mary and John (wife Jana) Anthrop of West Lafayette, her grandsons Jade, Dru, Danny and Jackson Anthrop, sister Betty Niccum and numerous beloved nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her sister Mary Gick, and her two brothers Cornelius and Bernard Vanderkolk.
Friends may call from 5-8p.m. Friday, May 25, 2012 at St. Lawrence Church. A rosary service will be held prior to the visitation at 4:45 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held at 11: 30 a.m. at St. Lawrence Church on Saturday, May 26 with Father Peter Vanderkolk and Father Dan Gartland officiating. Interment to follow at St. Boniface Cemetery.
