Robert Leland Young, 89, of Oxford, IN. died at Cumberland Pointe Healthcare Center in West Lafayette Tuesday May 21, 2013 at 4:15 PM. Bob was born January 2, 1924 in Vigo County, IN. the son of the late Joseph Lonzo and Blanche Louise Morgan Young. He graduated in 1941 from Tangier High School. On June 16, 1945 he married Mina Anderson, and she preceded him in death June 30, 1999. On July 21, 2001 he married Betty Gill and she survives. Bob worked for Ambia Oil Company 17 years and then 24 years for C & D Battery Company, retiring in 1989. He was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ and a 64 year member of the Masonic Lodge.
Bob enjoyed woodworking and made beautiful pieces of furniture for family and friends. He also enjoyed reading Western novels, spending time in Florida and being with his family. He is survived by two sons, Don Young (wife Sheila) of Downs, IL., and Jim Young (wife Karen) of West Lafayette, IN.
Also surviving are four grandchildren, Jack Young (wife Sherry); Jenn Wetli (husband Todd); Joe Young (wife Sheri) and Jill McCoy(husband Ryan) and nine great-grandchildren. He is also survived by three step-children Jim Gill (wife Gina) of Dayton, OH.; Edie McCoy (friend Jim) of Georgetown, IL.; and Donna Henderson (husband Kim) of Danville, IL. along with six step-grandchildren and one step-great-grandchild. A sister, Joann Parent of Georgetown, TX and a sister-in-law, Doris Malone (husband Ray) of Newberry, IN. also survive. He was preceded in death by one brother, Richard, and one sister Margie Karamolegos.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Oxford from 4 until 7 PM Saturday, with Masonic rites at 6:30 PM Saturday. The body will lie in state one hour prior to the service at 2 PM Sunday at the Oxford Church of Christ, Larry McMillan officiating. The interment will follow in Justus Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to the Pine Village Masonic Lodge; Easter Seals of Bloomington, IL., 2402 East Empire, Bloomington, IL 61701; the Cayuga Presbyterian Church or the Oxford Church of Christ.
