Robert Jones

Robert W. “Jonesy” Jones, Jr., 80 of Lafayette, passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at his residence in Lafayette Friday morning November 2, 2018. Bob was born in Lafayette October 29, 1938, the son of the late Robert W. “Bob” Jones, Sr. and Marcella R. Donahoe Jones. He was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, and served four years as an electrician’s apprentice. Jonesy was first married to Sandra Vanderipe in Delphi, IN and she preceded him in death Feb 14, 1995. He then married Janet L. Kamstra in Lafayette September 20, 1997 and she survives. Jonesy was employed as an electrician from 1957 until 2001, serving as Lafayette City Electrical Inspector the last 14 years of his career. He was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church in Lafayette and attended St. Finbarr Catholic Church in Naples, FL where he and Janet wintered for many years. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Fourth Degree; a member of the IBEW #668 and served in the US Army Reserves. Surviving with his wife is a daughter, Karen Jenkinson (Scott) of Lafayette; two sons, John R. Jones (Jackie) of Lafayette; Thomas W. Jones (Kelly) of Lafayette; two stepsons, Bob Taylor (Becky) of Lafayette; John Taylor (Leanne) of St. John’s FL; a brother, James Michael “Mike” Jones (Vicky) of Lafayette; and by a sister, Joellen Burgess (Ron) of Lafayette. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 9 step-grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and seven step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Alys Ann Buntin and a step-son, Thomas G. “Tom” Taylor. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from the Rosary at 3:45 PM until 7:00 PM Tuesday Nov. 6. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Boniface Catholic Church 10:0 AM Wednesday Nov. 7, with Fr. Tim Alkire officiating, with interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
