Robert Eugene Scanlon, 90, of Clarks Hill, IN He passed away on June 2, 2017 at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born on August 20, 1926 in Lafayette, IN, he was the son of the late William and Grace (Coe) Scanlon. Robert graduated from West Lafayette High School in 1943. He attended Purdue University and was a member of ROTC. He married Rita Jean Yates on September 9, 1950 at St. Mary’s Cathedral. They resided at the family farm west of Clarks Hill the 59 years they were married. She preceded him in death in 2009. Bob was a true farmer and family man. He helped his son Dave in the fields and drove a combine until he was 89. He continued to mow his lawn until he was admitted into the hospital. Bob worked at Landis Gyr for 20 years and was a passionate collector: hats, magazines, firearms, bicycles, and cars. In addition, his family expects to find a candy collection hidden away! He loved being around people and socializing - his “family” at Southside Diner meant the world to him. He will always be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor. His children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were continuously prepared for him to pop out at them wearing a Halloween mask. He used to load his grandchildren up in his blue station wagon, the “Grocery Getter,” and take them to Dairy Queen. It wasn’t until adulthood that the grandchildren realized the ice cream was more of a treat for Bob than them. Survived by his daughter, Jessica Mary Scanlon Wolf (husband Steve) of Elizabethville, PA; son, David William Scanlon, (wife Donna) of Lafayette; grandchildren, April Johnson (Clint), Eric Wolf, Cristina Bulick, Mary Catherine Wolf, Dr. Joseph Scanlon (Kim), Ben Scanlon (Nancy), Eliza Talamantes (Jose), Sam Scanlon, Rachel Hitze (Nate); great-grandchildren, Faith, Brenden, Zoe, Laylah, Ana, Robbie (Robert’s namesake), Owen, and Leo. Robert was preceded in death by two sons, Steve and Mark, brother William Scanlon, sisters Thelma Scanlon and Mary Jean Berryman.
