Richard Paul “Rich” O’Brien of Lafayette died December 4, 2017 at St. Mary’s Health Care, he was 88.Rich was born on September 6, 1929 in Brook, IN to Henry & Anna O’Brien and was raised in Kentland, IN. After graduating high school in Kentland, Rich served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. On June 7, 1952 Rich married Marie Doyle in Earl Park, IN. They moved to Lafayette where they raised their five children. Rich worked at Eli Lilly for 28 years and retired as the Lafayette Plant Security and Fire Chief. Rich & Marie were lifelong members of St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lafayette. Rich is survived by his wife, Marie, two daughters, Teresa Brewer (husband: Mark) & Kathleen O’Brien (husband: Mark Broda), three sons, Kevin O’Brien (Jodie Hicks), Hugh O’Brien, Keith O’Brien (wife: Lisa), 12 grandchildren and 13 great grandchildren. Rich is preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Anna Donohue & Louise Leming, and four brothers, Ray, Harry, Joe & Tom. Services will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral on Thursday, December 7. Friends are welcome at 10:00 a.m., followed by a funeral mass at 11:30 with a luncheon served immediately following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the St. Mary’s Debt Reduction Fund.
