Richard J. "Joe" Bixler, 73, of Lafayette, died at Seton Specialty Hospital in Lafayette 9:27 A.M. Thursday July 24, 2008 where he had been a patient for the past 3 weeks. Born in Hymera, IN. November 23, 1934, the son of the late Ralph V. and Reva L. Butler Bixler, he attended Knightstown, IN. schools, and had resided in Lafayette most all of his life. He married Mary Alice Corbin at Woodbine, Georgia March 23, 1957, and she survives. Mr. Bixler was a landscaping contractor, first working for Kohler Brothers, and later operating his own business. Mr. Bixler enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, playing cards, animals, and working on small engines. Surviving with his wife are 3 daughters, Reva M. Shadowens (husband Bruce) of Lafayette, IN.; Dwan M. Gebhart (husband Steve) of Lafayette, IN.; Mary Anne Prather of Lafayette, IN.; 4 sons Richard J. "Joe" Bixler (wife Susan) of Lafayette, IN.; Fred H. Bixler (wife Tammy) of Attica, IN.; Emmett R. Bixler and Irvin E. Bixler, both of Lafayette, IN.; 2 brothers Ray Bixler of Pendleton, IN.; Larry Bixler of Bloomington, IN.; and 1 sister, Katherine Simmerman of Greencastle, IN. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 5 P.M. until the services at 7:00 P.M. Monday, Rev. Raymond Parnell officiating. Interment in Sandridge Cemetery, West Lafayette. Also surviving are 13 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by 2 brothers and 2 sisters.
