Rev. Dr. R. Clayton Kendall, 88, of Linden, IN died at Franciscan St. Elizabeth Hospital in Crawfordsville 2:07 AM Thursday December 29, 2016 where he had been a patient since Monday. He had been ill since October, 2016. Rev. Kendall was born in Mitchell, IN December 1, 1928, the son of the late Rollie C. and Nora Hamilton Kendall. He married Leah Jane Chastain at Mitchell, IN July 3, 1949 and she survives. Rev. Kendall was a graduate of Mitchell, IN High School, and received his Bachelor’s and Master’s Degrees from Ball State and his PhD from Toledo Theological Seminary. He was a pastor and educator, serving 18 years as pastor of Buck Creek United Methodist Church and founding pastor of St. Paul Community Church where he was still serving after 22 years. As an educator, he taught from 1972 until retiring in 1994 for the Tippecanoe County School Corporation, serving as principal at Mintonye Elementary School and teaching 6th grade at Mayflower Mill and Southwestern schools. He was a veteran of the Korean War, serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1950 until 1954. Surviving is his wife Leah; a son, Mark A. Kendall, (wife Peggy) of Lafayette, IN; a daughter, Judith A. Stull (husband David) of Kokomo, IN and a brother Carol Kendall of Mitchell, IN. Also surviving are five grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Donnie and Kenneth Kendall. Friends may call from 10:00 AM until the service at 1:00 PM Saturday Dec. 31 in the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Linden, IN, Pastors Steve Padgett and Mary Hollis officiating. The interment with American Legion Post 11 military rites will follow at Linden Cemetery. If friends desire. Memorials may be made to St. Paul Community Church.
