Reta Klein

Reta S. Klein, 91, of Lafayette, died at Regency Place in Lafayette 4:58 P.M. Saturday February 20, 2010, where she had resided for the past seven and a half years. She was born in Nashville, IL. January 8, 1919, the daughter of the late John and Mary Weibler Siegman, and attended Nashville (IN.) schools. Reta was proud to have had the opportunity to work in the fields with her father. She said it was hard work, but better than being indoors. Her marriage was to Fred J. Klein in 1938, and they moved to Lafayette in 1942. Mr. Klein preceded her in death in 1980. Mrs. Klein owned and operated the Snack Shack Restaurant , and later worked at the Brown Rubber Company, CTS, and the Indiana Veterans Home. Later in life she worked domestically for the families of Dr. Wayne Luke and Dr.'s Michel and Lucie Levy, retiring when she was 80 years old. She was known to be a hard worker and a great cook. Mrs. Klein and her husband loved to fish together, and she found great joy in outfishing her husband. They loved to dance, and at age 90, she was still able to dance the polka. Surviving are 2 daughters, Reta Kaye Corbett of St. George, Utah and Faye E. Cole (husband Jerry) of Lafayette; a sister, Betty Zapp of Okawville, IL., and a brother Robert Siegman of Okawville, IL. Also surviving are grandchildren Katherine Laub, Reta (Dee Dee) Schwab, Susan Whaley and Matthew Klein Slayton; and great-grandchildren, Cord Jenkins, Clair McCartney, Reta (Lupe) Dela Garza, Lani Dela Garza, Allison Schwab, Ashley Ni Cole Slayton and Abby Elizabeth Slayton. Preceded in death by a daughter, Freida Marie Hawks, 2 sisters, Frances Novak & Linda Ringering and 2 brothers, John & Virgil Siegman. Friends may call at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from noon until the service at 2:00 P.M. Thursday, Pastor Bob Lyzenga officiating. Interment Tippecanoe Memory Gardens.
