Raymond Nelson

Raymond J. Nelson, 93, of N. Ft. Myers, FL., formerly of Lafayette and Otterbein, died Sunday Nov. 4, 2012 at his residence in Florida. Raymond was born in Remington, IN. January 6, 1919, the son of the late Joseph and Mary Funk Nelson, and was a graduate of Remington, IN. High School.
Raymond married Alice Hope Homrig May 27, 1961, and she preceded him in death September 27, 1992. He owned and operated Ray's Tavern in Otterbein for several years, and later worked at Purdue University, retiring in 1984, and had also previously farmed.
Raymond was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette, the Catholic Order of Foresters, the Eagles and Moose Lodge, both in Lafayette, and a member of the Elks Lodge in Ft. Myers, FL.
Surviving is a son, David Homrig (wife Beverly) of N. Ft. Myers, FL., two daughters, Margo Homrig Reiss of Lafayette, IN., Marilyn Homrig Bell of Terre Haute, IN.; two sisters, Helen Fuller of Greely, CO., and Rita Gagnon of Waukegan, IL.; and by 7 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St. from 9:30 until 10:15 AM Friday. Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Friday, St. Mary's Cathedral, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating.
