Rachel Elliott

Rachel L. (Siple) Elliott, age 96, of Lafayette, passed away at Franciscan East, St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lafayette Monday afternoon March 14, 2022. Rachel was born on July 17, 1925 to Francis R. and Ellen (Stingley) Siple. She grew up in Lafayette, attending Longlois School and graduating from Jefferson High School. On June 6, 1947 she married Charles T. Elliott. They raised five daughters. He preceded her in on March 10, 1985. Rachel worked at Woolworth’s Department Store when her children were young. After the girls grew, she became a crossing guard first at Longlois, then at Washington, ending up at Linwood School. She was a guard for over 40 years. She also was a person that the children could practice their reading. Rachel loved interacting with each one of the children. She loved to read, work cross word puzzles and work with plastic. Rachel was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brother and sister-in-law Francis and Mary Siple, sister and brother-in-law Elise May and Roddie Morgan, daughter and son-in-law, Kay and Jerry Dexter, step-daughter, Donna Rhode, a grandson Chuck Rhode and two grandsons in infancy, Bill and Melvin Cain. Surviving are three daughters, Carrie (Roger) Morgan, Connie (John) Cain and Rachel (Jon) Moore along with grandchildren Melissa (James) Brown, Julie (Brandon) Johnson, John (Brandi) Cain, Dana (Doug) Grey, Cheryl (Gary) King, Kelly (Chuck) King, Michelle (Mike) Nelson, Michael Dexter, Lori Green, Kenney (Joy) Rhode and Gene Rhode. Also surviving are numerous great-grand and great-great-grandchildren. A private family interment will be held at Stingley Cemetery near Stockwell, IN with a Celebration of Life to be held at a later date.
