Patricia J. Smith, 81, of Lafayette, passed away at The Springs in Lafayette 6:35 AM Sunday May 28, 2017 where she had been a patient the past nine days. She was born in Lafayette April 13, 1936, the daughter of the late Stanford A. and Beatrice Tracey Leach and attended St. Mary’s School. Her marriage was to Creed C. Smith, Sr. in Lafayette June 7, 1952, and he preceded her in death November 15, 1993. Patricia was a member of St. Mary Cathedral; VFW Post 1154 and American Legion Post 11 Ladies Auxiliary; Navy Club Ship 12 Auxiliary; and a member of 40 & 8 Voiture 364 LeFemme. She enjoyed playing bingo, as well as working crossword and jig saw puzzles. Patricia had been employed at Hudlow’s Cleaners from 1975 until 1991, and in 1991, became a 911 dispatcher until her retirement in 2001. She is survivied by two daughters, Robin A. Smith and Susan L. Nice (husband Eric) both of Lafayette, IN; by four sons, William T. “Bill” Smith, Creed C. Smith, Jr. (wife Mary) and John A. Smith all of Lafayette and Rick A. Smith of Monticello, IN and a brother, Thomas Leach (wife Jeri) of Tempe, AZ. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two sisters, Madelyn and Louise and by three brothers, Robert, Donald and Gordon. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Thursday June 1, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with the interment following at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens. Friends may contribute in memory of Patricia to either St. Mary Cathedral or the American Lung Association.
