Patricia "Pat" Seiters Anthrop

February 7, 1937 — September 12, 2024

Lakeland, FL

Patricia "Pat" Seiters Anthrop was born on February 7, 1937, in Tippecanoe County, Indiana.

She passed peacefully on Thursday, September 12 in Lakeland, Florida surrounded by family.

Pat was adopted by Cleo and Josephine (Lewis) Seiters in 1938. As an only child, she was adored by her parents and grandparents. She spent her entire childhood in West Lafayette and Lafayette, Indiana. Her father owned Joseph Seiters & Sons Tavern at Five Points in Lafayette, while her grandparents, Joseph, and Florence Seiters, owned a home on Park Avenue.

Pat was baptized and attended elementary school at St. Boniface Catholic Church, and attended Lafayette Jeff High School.

In 1954, Pat married John "Jack" A. Anthrop at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Lafayette, IN. Together they welcomed five children between 1955 and 1963. Pat’s love of life and her indomitable spirit are deeply cherished by her family and friends.

Pat was an avid golfer, forming lifelong friendships through golf outings across the Midwest. She enjoyed tailgating for Boilermaker football throughout the Big 10, traveling on adventurous vacations, hosting legendary slumber parties, and creating memories that will forever be treasured.

She taught her children invaluable life lessons — to love, care for others, laugh at oneself, cherish friendships, and above all, love family. Pat's humor was legendary, and she was adored by many of her children's friends over the years.

Pat and her family lived in Lafayette during their formative years. She drove her children to Saturday catechism classes, library trips, and sports events, as well as cherished stops at O'Rear's Pastry Shop, Triple XXX Drive-In, and Arnis.

Summers were often spent at their second home on Lake Freeman, where Pat welcomed family and friends. She delighted in entertaining, making every holiday and weekend special, which is a life lesson learned from her mother.

After the children left the nest, Pat and Jack sold their lake home and relocated to Vero Beach, Florida, where they lived for many years before Pat eventually moved to Melbourne, Florida. In Melbourne, Pat rekindled a loving 18-year friendship with Jerry Lemm until his passing in 2018.

Pat’s life was rich with love, laughter, and joy, shared with family and friends from Indiana to Florida. She especially cherished her last five years in Lakeland, Florida, where she lived with her daughter Kathy and son-in-law Mike. Pat continued to visit family in Cocoa Beach and traveled to Lafayette, her beloved hometown, whenever she could.

Pat is survived by her five children: Debbie Griffis (Bill) of Lafayette, IN; Doug Anthrop (Nicole) of Lafayette, IN; Kathy Bowman (Mike) of Lakeland, FL; Pam Cavanaugh (Jim) of Cocoa Beach, FL; and John C. Anthrop (Sheryl) of Monticello, IN.

Survived by her Grandchildren and Bonus Grandchildren:

Kristy Taylor (John) Lafayette, IN; Michael Griffis (Kelsey Brischart), Broad Ripple, IN; Karissa Nydegger(Monon, IN; Blake Nydegger, Lafayette, IN; James Patterson, West Branch, MI; Andrew Patterson, Orlando, FL; Lucas Patterson (Lauren), Orlando, FL; Bethany Ditto (Marc), West Lafayette, IN; Jeremy Bowman, West Lafayette, IN; George Austin Mounce (Elizabeth), Rockledge, FL; and Carleigh Watson (Nic), Merritt Island, FL; Michael Anthrop, Lafayette, IN; Matthew Anthrop (Hannah), Lafayette, IN; John Patrick Duffy Anthrop (Brittney Howard), Lafayette, IN.

Adopted as an only child, she always wanted five children and the legacy she began those many years ago continues with twenty-four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Her vibrant spirit, humor, and love will forever be remembered by those who knew and loved her.
