Melody A. Hooper, 62, of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Medical Center 7:08 P.M. Wednesday August 20, 2008. Born in Indianapolis April 9, 1946, the daughter of the late Hampton C. and Madelyn F. Farrell Young, she was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School. She married Jack L. Hooper at St. Mary's Cathedral in Lafayette Feb. 19, 1966, and he survives. Mr. Hooper is a retired Lafayette firefighter. Mrs. Hooper was a member of St. Mary's Cathedral; the Bunco Card Club; enjoyed playing Scrabble and reading; working crossword puzzles; attending Civic theatre, and watching Jeopardy. She collected Boyd's Bears, and followed politics, and was a long time voting poll worker. Mrs. Hooper had worked as a cook for restaurants owned by her family, the most recent being Young's Village Restaurant in Mar-Jean Village. Surviving with her husband are 2 sons, Kim L. Hooper (wife Samantha) of Lafayette and Bryan H. Hooper of Indianapolis. Friends may call at St. Mary's Cathedral from 9:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM Monday, Fr. Daniel Gartland officiating. Also surviving are 2 grandchildren, Bradley and Kalynn Scott. If friends desire, memorials may be made to either the American Heart Association or American Diabetes Foundation. Melody was a loving and caring wife, mom, grandmother and friend.
