A long-time resident of Lafayette, Maude Anna "Nan" Minniear, 96, died on June 13, 2014. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Edward O. Minniear, Sr. and her three sisters. She was also preceded in death by her first husband, First Lieutenant Peter L. Whelan, who was killed aboard a B-25 in France, September 11, 1944. She graduated from Nazareth College in Bardstown, Kentucky, and then graduated from Saint Joseph Infirmary School of Nursing in Louisville, Kentucky. She practiced nursing in the 1940's as an Obstetrics Supervisor, and also as a Public Health nurse in her hometown of Henderson, Kentucky. Later Mrs. Minniear, an accomplished violinist, played with the West Lafayette Symphony. She was a member of the Catholic Nurses of Lafayette; Saint Elizabeth Hospital Auxiliary; Saint Mary Cathedral; the Lafayette Country Club; and Gold Star Wives of America. At the center of her life was her beloved family. She is survived by her daughter, Ann Whelan Minniear O'Connor, Indianapolis. Also surviving are her two sons, Edward O. Minniear, Jr., Fredericksburg, Virginia, and David M. Minniear, Lafayette. She was also a loving grandmother to six grandchildren, and great-grandmother to six great-grandchildren. Friends may call at St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette from 1:00 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 1:30 PM Tuesday June 17, Fr. Joshua Bennett officiating, with entombment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum. If friends desire, memorials may be made to St. Mary Cathedral Parish Nurses.
