Marylyn Joyce Nesbitt, a beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on January 9, 2025, at the Cumberland Pointe Health Campus in West Lafayette. Born on June 24, 1932, in Kokomo, IN, Marylyn was the daughter of the late Clarence & Mildred Rush. She married Daniel Nesbitt on August 29, 1970 in Oxford.
Marylyn's early life reflected her dedication to education, having been named the Valedictorian of Burlington High School in 1950. Her professional career began at ALCOA manufacturing, where she worked for eight years. Marylyn owned & operated Oxford Monuments for 25 years as well as being a Wearly Monument dealer. In addition, she served as an insurance agent for Hoosier Associates for 16 years. She concluded her career in public service as the Clerk Treasurer of Oxford, retiring in 2004 after 13 years of service.
Marylyn was a dedicated member of the Oxford United Methodist Church and participated actively in the Church Choir, as well as the community singing group Musettes. She also belonged to "The Ambassadors" at Jenks Rest in Lafayette. In her leisure time, Marylyn enjoyed bird watching, reading, and spending time in her garden. Family gatherings brought her immense joy, and she was known for her talent in baking, particularly for her beautiful decorated cakes. She will be remembered for her loving nature, her meticulous attention to detail, and the rich legacy of kindness she leaves behind.
Survived by her daughters: Judy Thompson (John Lawrence) of Darlington, IN; Martha Spicer of Otterbein, IN; and Gail Swanson (Mark) of Parrish, FL. Marylyn was a proud grandmother to Travis, Adam, and Troy Winchester, Dylan and Andrew Spicer, and a great-grandmother to 13 great-grandchildren, each of whom she adored deeply.
Marylyn was preceded in death by her husband; three sisters and three brothers, as well as her son-in-law Bill Spicer.
Visitation will be held at Hahn-Groeber Funeral & Cremation Services in Oxford, IN, on January 17, 2025, from 10:00 AM until time of funeral service at 11:30 AM, officiated by Rev. Kelly Sellers. The interment will follow in Justus Cemetery in Oxford. Memorial contributions may be made in Marylyn’s memory to the Oxford Public Library 201, E. Smith St. Oxford, IN 47971.
