Mary Brickler

Mary P. “Phyllis” Brickler, 93, of Lafayette, died at her residence Wednesday morning April 19, 2017. Phyllis was born in Lafayette May 5, 1923, the daughter of the late Walter and Margaret C. Eberle Dewenter and was a graduate of St. Francis High School in Lafayette. She married Robert I. Bricker in Lafayette September 9, 1950 and he preceded her in death December 14, 2002. Phyllis was a devout Catholic and member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church in Lafayette, being the first girl baptized at the “new” St. Lawrence Catholic Church. She was a member of the quilting club at St. Lawrence; loved painting and had taken art lessons from Sister Rafinia. Phyllis enjoyed fishing, golf, working crossword puzzles, reading, sewing and playing scrabble. She was known for being an awesome cook and pie baker; had a good sense of humor and was a prankster. Phyllis loved her grandchildren and liked to travel with her long- time friend, Esther Koning Fraser. Surviving is a daughter, Anne A. Brickler of Lafayette and a son, Robert P. Brickler (wife Gail) of Lafayette. Also surviving are three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by two brothers, John “Bud” Dewenter and Robert Dewenter; and two sisters, Florence Dewenter and Mabel Dewenter Dienhart. The family would like to thank the special ladies of Angel’s Senior Home Solutions and Great Lakes Hospice for their compassionate care of Phyllis. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church from 10:30 AM until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM Friday April 21, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. The interment will follow at St. Boniface Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Back Pack Program at St. Lawrence Church, Food Finders Food Bank or St. Ann’s Soup Kitchen.
