Marion E. Samuel, 91, of Lafayette, died at Rosewalk Village Healthcare in Lafayette 10;10 AM Monday August 17, 2015. Marion was born in Chicago, IL February 27, 1924, the daughter of the late Temple Edward and Eretta Louise Cotton Jackson. She was a 1942 graduate of Flower Technical High School; attended the Clotilde School of Design for four years, graduating in 1946; attended the Art Institute of Chicago for two years, graduating in 1958 and later attended Indiana University. In 1978 she was named the first African-American counselor at Culver Academy. Marion was a clothing designer and had owned and operated two clothing stores in Chicago. Surviving is a daughter, Pamela Denise Ireland (husband Fred) of San Leandro, CA; two grandsons, Jared and Jason Williams; two brothers, Dr. Temple Jackson (wife Christnaline) of Ontario, CA; Charles E. Jackson of Chicago, IL; and by two sisters, Charlotte J. Alexander (husband James) of Louisville, KY; and Helen Marie Carr (husband Roosevelt) of South Holland, IL. Marion was preceded in death by a daughter, Diane Marie Dorwart in 2005 and a son, Wayne Darl Williams in 1993.
