Marilyn Burrell

April 14, 1934 — November 21, 2018

Lafayette, IN

Jane Burrell , 84, suddenly passed from this life into eternity on Wednesday, November 21st, 2018 in Lafayette. She was a woman of great faith, and her passing occured on the feast of the Presentation of Mary the Mother of Jesus. Born on April 14th, 1934 in Lawrenceville, Illinois to the late Van and Maxine Peerman, Jane was preceeded in death by both of her parents and two of her sisters, Lois Maxwell and Donna Peno. On January 2nd, 1954 Jane married the love of her life, John Burrell, at Saint Lawrence Catholic Church in Lawrenceville, Illinois - they shared 65 beautiful years of marriage. Jane’s devotion and care for John, particularly in his advanced age, exemplified her as a role model to her family on how to love and care for one’s spouse. Jane and John’s love and life together was a testament to the Sacrament of Holy Matrimony. Jane’s legacy in her life was a legacy of love. She particuarly loved her Husand, John Burrell, Daughter, Shelley Strong, Son-in-Law John Strong, Sister, Carole Peerman, granddaugthers, Michelle Strong and Sarah Van Kirk, and grandsons John and Mark Strong. Her love extended to her six great-grandchildren, Layla, Brennan, and Lillian Van Kirk, Aiden Koontz, Josh and Anna-Jane Grigonis, as well. During her life, Jane held several secretary positions, including co-ownership of Lafayette’s Bridal Boutique. She, also, had many hobbies - the favorite of those was antique doll collecting and knitting. She was a member of the Cinderella Doll Club and the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jane thrived to live out God’s calling to help others. She was very active at St. Mary’s Cathedral Parish in Lafayette. For years she and her husband counted money for the Church. Jane participated in providing funeral dinners for greiving families and actively participated in the Parish’s “Blessed Threads” group. Her capacity for generosity toward others – whether that be family, friend, or stranger - is one of her crowning jewels. She always went out of her way to help others and to make them feel good about themselves. She had a unique gift of making everyone she met feel special. Her smile and up-beat attitude made Jane a person in whom people wanted to be around. Jane is survived by her Husband, John, Daughter, Shelley, Son-in-Law, John , Sister, Carole Peerman (all from Lafayette), her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews. She loved her family and spent countless hours with her four grandchildren, watching and nuturing them as they grew up. Most recently, she greatly enjoyed sharing her love with her grandchildren’s families. Love was what she gave the most of, and she will always be remembered for sharing that love. Jane’s visitation and a Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at St Mary’s Cathedral, in Lafayette, IN on Wednesday November 28th, 2018. The visitation will occur from 9:30 – 10:30AM, with a Mass of Chrisitan Burial scheduled directly following the visitation. Graveside services and internment at St. Mary’s Cemetery will directly follow the Mass. The family asks that any acts of generosity - particularly masses said in rememberance of Jane - be sent to Saint Mary Cathedral Parish in Lafayette, Indiana. Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home of Lafayette is honored to serve the Burrell family. Memories and condolences may be left at www.hahngroeberfuneralhome.com
