Marcella Jones

Marcella R. Jones, 93, of Lafayette, died at Rosewalk Village in Lafayette 5:57 PM Wednesday July 20, 2011. She was born in Lafayette Sept. 20, 1917, the daughter of the late Francis Patrick and Mary Ellen Raymond Donohoe. Mrs. Jones attended St. Ann Grade School and graduated from St. Francis High School in 1934. She married Robert W. Jones, Sr., in Lafayette February 22, 1938, and he preceded her in death May 25, 1986. Mrs. Jones had worked as a bookkeeper for the Schultz law firm, and later for Judge Keating, also working for Duncan Electric and for many years for the City of Lafayette in the Water Works department. She was a member of St. Boniface Catholic Church; past president of the Mother's Club at St. Boniface; a member of the St. Boniface Altar & Rosary Society; Co-founder of Tippecanoe County Right to Life and participated in the first march in Washington, D.C. for the Right to Life movement. Surviving are 2 daughters, Alys Buntin and Joellen M. Burgess (husband Ron) both of Lafayette; and by 2 sons, Robert W. Jones, Jr. (wife Janet) and J. Michael Jones (wife Vicky), both of Lafayette. Also surviving are 9 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandson. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 7 sisters. Marcella had an intense love for her family and her Catholic faith. Friends may call from the Rosary at 4:45 until 7 PM Monday at the HAHN-GROEBER FUNERAL HOME, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Tuesday, St. Boniface Catholic Church, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with interment in St. Boniface Cemetery.
