Mahlon O. "Cookie" Eberhard, 75, of Lafayette, died at his residence 7:00 PM Monday August 23, 2010 following a brief illness. He was born in Monon, IN. June 14, 1935, the son of the late William and Hildur Anderson Eberhard, and was a graduate of Monon (IN) High School. Mr. Eberhard married N. Jean Wittenauer at Dunnington, IN., January 11, 1958, and she survives. He worked for the Monon Railroad, later CSX Railroad as an operations clerk for 47 years, retiring in 1997. Mr. Eberhard was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church, the Old Rails and the Monon Historical Association. Surviving with his wife are 2 daughters, Nancy Eberhard of Indianapolis, IN.; Mary Brost (husband Todd) of Beaver Creek,OH.; 3 sons, William Eberhard (wife Glenda) of Lafayette, IN.; James Eberhard of Lafayette, IN.; Robert Eberhard (wife Amy) of Delphi, IN.; 3 sisters, Sharon Eberhard of Lafayette, IN.; Christine Smith of Colfax, IN.; Donna Maitlen of Lafayette, IN.; and a half brother Jack Anderson (wife Fern) of St. Charles, IL. Also surviving are 7 grandchildren. Preceded in death by a brother, Donald Eberhard. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 19th & Meharry St., Lafayette, from the Rosary at 4:45 until 8 PM Thursday, with Old Rails service at 7:30 PM. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Friday, St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Fr. Dan Gartland and Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. Interment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, West Lafayette.
