Lyle Clute

September 24, 1922 — October 3, 2016

Lyle E. Clute, 94, of Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth East Hospital unexpectedly Monday October 3, 2016. Lyle was born in Iroquois County, IL September 24, 1922, the son of the late Laurence C. and Emily Keys Clute and was a 1941 graduate of Ambia, IN High School. He served in the US Army during World War II in the 14th Armored Division, Company C and received a Purple Heart. Lyle married Ottilia M. Klinker at St. Charles Catholic Church in Otterbein September 28, 1946, and she survives. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary on Sunday October 2, 2016. Lyle was employed by ALCOA for 42 years before his retirement, and was a member of St. Mary Cathedral; a life member of American Legion Post 11 of Lafayette; a member of the Disabled American Veterans; 40 & 8, Voiture 364; Fraternal Order of Eagles and ALCOA retirees club. Surviving with his wife are two daughters, Emily J. Brunton (William) of Ft. Wayne, IN; Dana L. Farrell (Robert) of West Point, IN; two sons, Daryl E. Clute (Terry) of Lafayette, IN and David J. Clute (Jane) of Cicero, IN. Also surviving are 8 grandchildren, and 17 great-grandchildren. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 6 until 8 PM Wednesday, Oct. 5, with the Rosary being recited at 5:45 PM. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral at 10:30 AM Thursday Oct. 6, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with interment to follow at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens, with Military Rites by American Legion Post 11.
