Lorene Henderson

Lorene E. Henderson, 97, of West Lafayette and formerly of Oxford, died at 10:12 AM Wednesday December 23, 2009 in the emergency room of Clarian-Arnett Hospital in Lafayette. Born April 13, 1912 in Oxford, IN., the daughter of the late William and Amelia Michael Strasburger, she was a graduate of Oxford High School. She married Merle Henderson April 5, 1951 in Oxford, and he preceded her in death May 31, 1972. Mrs. Henderson assisted her husband in the operation of Henderson Poultry and Egg in Oxford, retiring in 1970. She later was a child care provider in her home after moving to West Lafayette in 1973. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Oxford, and also a member of the Church of the Blessed Sacrament in West Lafayette. Mrs. Henderson enjoyed bowling, and was a former Benton County Women's Bowling Champ. Surviving is a step-daughter, Donna Lewis of Bedford, IN. Also surviving are 10 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren,a daughter -in-law, Mary Anne Henderson of Scottsdale, AZ., and a son-in-law, Kenneth Kelp of Pine Village, IN., along with 3 special children she took care of for many years, Kelli Bowen, Erin Braun and Rachel Kirkpatrick. She was preceded in death by 1 sister and 5 brothers. Friends may call at St. Patrick's Church in Oxford one hour prior to the Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 AM Tuesday, Fr. Robert Klemme officiating, with interment following in Oxford Catholic Cemetery. If friends desire, memorials may be made to either St. Patrick's Church or Church of the Blessed Sacrament.
