Leonard Eugene Collins, 87, of rural Lafayette died 9:38 PM Friday, November 8,2013 at St. Elizabeth Central surrounded by family. He was born March 31, 1926 in Gerald, Il. He received his diploma in 1945 from Armstrong High School, Armstrong, IL. On March 22, 1956 he married Angeline Pauline Jones in Lafayette and she preceded him in death on August 22, 2011. He served in the US Navy during WWII & the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the American Legion. Mr. Collins was a supervisor at the Tippecanoe Co. Highway Dept. for 21yrs. retiring in 1988.
Leonard, loved by many, was notorious for his sense of humor, which frequently involved having himself photographed in strange hats, outlandish wigs, and attire at all levels of appropriateness. He will be remembered for his rugged self-reliance, love of his animals, dining on shrimp, but most of all, for the love he gave his family.
Surviving are a daughter, Linda Elaine Haynes(Husband:Jim) of Lafayette, & 2 sons, Jack Wayne Todd(Wife:Cathy) of Mulberry, Larry Lee Todd of Lafayette, IN. Also surviving are 5 granchildren, 8 great-grandchildren & 3 great-great-grandchildren.
Friends may call 4-7pm Tuesday at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Linden. Funeral 10 am Wednesday at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Linden with Rev. R. Clayton Kendall. Burial with military rites to follow in Linden Cemetery. Preceded in death by a brother, Johnny Collins and 2 sisters, Mildred Downey & Louise Sabol.
