Larry J. Fitzgerald, a lifelong resident of Lafayette, was born March 14, 1927 and died peacefully March 6, 2016 in Indianapolis. Son of the late John and Stephania Fitzgerald, he grew up with his eight brothers on the family farm in Stockwell, IN. He graduated from Stockwell High School in 1945, attended Purdue University and served in the Korean conflict. He married Marjorie Butz in 1954 and they were faithful and active members of St. Mary's Cathedral Parish. Together they raised five children. Larry began working for the U.S. Postal Service in 1950. He was proud to take over his father's rural letter carrier route in 1962 and enjoyed delivering the mail to the residents of Clarks Hill, Stockwell, and Romney, for 25 years. After he retired, Larry worked at Purdue athletic events and the Purdue golf course. He loved golfing with family and friends. He supported Catholic education, served on the CC school board, and chaired the Dollars for Scholars program. Larry had a strong faith throughout his life.
His high level of energy was admired by many. He was a fan of the CC Knights, Purdue Boilermakers, Notre Dame Fighting Irish, and all the sports and activities his grandchildren were involved in.
