Lavern Wagoner

December 18, 1913 — March 4, 2010

LaVern "Vernie" Wagoner, 96, of Pine Village, died at his residence 8:00 A.M. Thursday March 4, 2010 unexpectedly. Born December 18, 1913, near Independence in Warren County, IN, the son of the late Alpha and Ida Harper Wagoner, he was a 1932 graduate of Pine Village High School. He married Wilma Sturgeon at Oxford, IN. June 3, 1939, and she survives. Mr. Wagoner worked for Mrs. Rosie Brutus at the Brutus Hatchery in Pine Village for many years, and later was employed at the Cornbelt Hatchery and Feed Mill in Oxford. He started farming for himself, and retired in 1979. He was a member of the Oxford Church of Christ, served as an elder and a deacon, and was former Sunday School Superintendent. He enjoyed playing horseshoes, winning many trophies, and was especially proud of his good sportsmanship awards. Mr. Wagoner also enjoyed fishing and hunting. Surviving with his wife are 2 sisters, Wilma Matthews of South Bend, IN. and Maxine Henley of Indianapolis, IN. Also surviving is a granddaughter, Jody Brown (husband Bob), a great-granddaughter Alyssa Munsey and 2 great-grandsons, Bryndon and Brock Brown. Preceded in death by a son, Michael D. Wagoner, 4 sisters and a brother. Friends may call at the Oxford Church of Christ 4 until 7:00 P.M. Monday. Service at the Oxford Church of Christ 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, Larry McMillan officiating.
