Kenneth Robert Chester, 88, of Lafayette died 2:15 pm Thursday, March 25, 2010 at Regency Place. He was born January 28, 1922 in Newtown, IN to the late Ernest Campell Chester & Essie Marie Haniford. He was a 1940 graduate of Newton High School. On May 7, 1949 he married Constance Ann "Connie" Van Hook in Newtown and she survives.
He was a member of the Newtown Methodist Church, the D.A.V., and a founding Life-Member of American Legion Quigle-Palin Post #394 from 1946-2010. He worked at Harrison Steel for a year between graduation and joining the U. S. Navy. He served in the Pacific Theatre as a member of the Amphibious Assault "Gator Navy" during WWII where he saw both Iwo Jima & Okinawa D-Days. Mr. Chester was a service manager for Ford and later a parts man at Shaver Pontiac and then at Mike Raisor.
Surviving are 2 sons: Michael L. "Mike" Chester of Escondido, CA and Richard W. "Rick" (wife: Jackie) Chester of Lafayette.
Friends may call from Noon until time of Service 2:00 pm Monday at Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home with Mike Parks officiating. Interment will follow at Sugar Grove Cemetery, New Richmond with Military Graveside Rites. Memorials may be made to American Cancer Society. Also surviving are 3 grandchildren: Keith, Katy & Kari, great-grandson: Michael along with several nieces & nephews. Preceded in death by a sister: Aletha and a brother: Eugene.
