Kathleen M. “Kathy” (Peters) Lester, 58, of West Point, IN passed away at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette at 10:47 PM Friday October 27, 2017. She had been a patient there since Tuesday, and had battled breast cancer for several years. Kathy was born in Lafayette September 15, 1959, the daughter of Mary Ellen (Kantz) Peters and the late Joseph F. Peters. She married John D. Lester, her high school sweetheart October 17, 1997 in Lafayette and he survives. Kathy was a graduate of Lafayette Central Catholic High School in 1977; was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church and an active life member of Sigma Phi Gamma Sorority, Alpha Delta Chapter where she held many chapter offices and served on multiple committees. She was employed from 1998 until retiring in 2015 from the Purdue University Ag Communications Department where she was the unit manager in the Media Distribution Center. Kathy had previously worked for Pro Audio and Controller Services. Surviving with her husband John are two daughters, Kathryn “Katie” (husband Brian) Klimaszewski of Whitestown, IN; Karla (husband Scott) Gillam of Lafayette; her mother, Mary Ellen Peters of Lafayette; four brothers, Thomas “Tom” Peters (wife Carol) of Aurora, CO; David “Dave” Peters (wife Janie) of Lafayette; James “Jim” Peters (wife Bev) of Placitas, NM; and Patrick “Pat” Peters of Stark, New Hampshire. Also surviving are six grandchildren, Paul, Jon, Peter and Adam Klimaszewski; Kristine and Anthony Gillam and a step-daughter, Tristan. She was preceded in death by her father, grandparents and a great-nephew. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church in Lafayette 10:30 AM Thursday Nov. 2, Fr. Dominic Young officiating, with interment to follow in St. Boniface Cemetery.
