Karen Edith Phillips passed away unexpectedly on May 29th, 2018 at IU Health Arnett at the age of 74. Karen was born in Noblesville, IN on June 29, 1943 to William Granville Dill and Daphne Eloise Dill. She was raised in Monticello and Delphi, IN and graduated from Delphi High School. She enlisted in the Navy and graduated from the Great Lakes Naval Academy in Illinois, and was stationed as a Nurse at El Toro in Santa Ana, CA caring for soldiers returning from Vietnam. Karen received an honorable discharge from the Navy and returned home, where she worked at St. Elizabeth Hospital while earning her Nursing degree in 1970. It was during this time Karen met the love of her life and best friend, Gary E Phillips. The two were married June 22, 1972. Gary and Karen did everything together. Karen’s favorite thing was being a loving, caring and supportive wife and mother. She enjoyed spending time with her husband, children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her extended family. Karen had a talent for crafting and sewing, which she used for both business and as a hobby, recently made blankets and clothes for her great grandchildren. Karen was very active making memory bears for many customers across the country. Karen will be greatly missed by her family and all those that knew her. She brought so much more to all our lives than she could ever know. She loved all greatly as we loved her. Karen is survived by her husband, Gary E Phillips, a daughter Stephanie R Lueken (husband Robert), and a son Gary E Phillips II (wife Crickett). Brothers Rodney S Dill (wife Gay), Larry L Dill (wife Sue), Terry L Dill (wife Jo), Thomas F Dill (wife Cindy, deceased), Michael J Dill (wife Betsy), sister Debra E Haworth (husband James); eight grandchildren, Alicia Schofield, Haley Fitzsimmons, Gerald Phillips III, Virginia Phillips, Chance Shoemaker, Brandon, Ryan and Tyler Lueken; six greatgrandchildren; sister-in-law Lita Dill; and a large extended family. Karen was preceded in death by her father, mother, and brother William T. Dill. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4 until 6 PM Sunday June 3, with the Rosary Service at 3:45 PM. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary Cathedral 10:30 AM Monday June 4, Fr. Jeff Martin officiating, with interment to follow at St. Mary Cemetery with military rites by American Legion Post 11. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations may be made to the National Kidney Foundation or to St. Mary Cathedral in Lafayette, IN where she was a member.
