Judith Kay Steiner Wierenga 76, of Lafayette passed away on January 11, 2019 at Milner Community Healthcare.
She was born July 26, 1942 to the late George and Rena Thomas and was the 3rd of 5 children. Joe (Jan) Thomas, Evelyn (Tom) Heide, Karen (Bobby) Hiatt, Steve (Dixie) Thomas. She graduated from Battle Ground HS and was employed at Square D Electric.
In 1967 she was married to Edward Steiner. They were married for 25 years, and had two children Shelly (Tommy) Hicks of Lafayette and Brad (Toni) Steiner of Chicago. Later in life she ran the Democratic Headquarters in Lafayette, became a sales representative for the Hoosier Lottery, and was a home-healthcare worker specializing in patients with Alzheimer’s.
On September 17, 1993 she married her love and life partner, David J. Wierenga and gained loving sons Shayne (Jaimie) Wierenga, Ryan Wierenga (deceased) and David Wierenga.
Judy was an outgoing and loving person, very active in life. She was always generous with her time, her laughter, and her love. She was an active in her community and at her best when helping others.
Her greatest pleasure in life was her 10 grandchildren Dylan, Danielle, Ryan, Rhett, Kylee, Kaycie, Caitlyn (deceased), Max, and Alina. And most recently her great grandson Beau. They brought her unmeasurable happiness and filled her heart with joy.
Although Judy suffered from dementia she was able to live at home thanks to the love and dedication of her husband Dave with support from Comfort Keepers (Patty, Amber, Tiffany, Wendy, Kathy). Thanks also to Viaquest Hospice and their amazing team. A very special thank you to her friend and Doctor Casey Pickerill.
Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM Wednesday January 16. A private family service will be held, with entombment at Tippecanoe Memory Gardens Mausoleum, Rev. Laura Penny Bade officiating.
