Joyce (Williams) Linder, 91, of West Lafayette passed at 4:33pm at St. Vincent Hospice in Indianapolis on Friday, September 22.
Joyce was born to Zora (Cravens) and Rufus Williams on February 1, 1932. She was the thirteenth of fourteen children growing up on a farm in Lafayette. She graduated from Jefferson High School and later in 1983 received an associate degree from Ivy Tech with the Deans award for earning straight A’s in legal studies. She married her sweetheart Norbert Linder on October 27, 1951. He preceded her in death on December 10, 1992.
Joyce enjoyed her work life and retired from St. Boniface Catholic Church at the age of 80. She enjoyed flowers, reading mystery novels, painting, and crocheting. She enjoyed traveling especially her trip to Italy with her church friends. She loved to have family dinners, but her Christmas Eve dinner party was the highlight of her year.
She is survived by four daughters, Sandra Martin (Andrew), Bonita Houze (Mark), Joy Kane (John), and Karen Fry (A.J.). She has twelve grandchildren, Zach Martin (Amanda) Williamsport; Seth Martin (Fiancé, Laura Crigler) Kauai, Hawaii; Ted Martin (Jaimie) Land O’Lakes, Florida: Grant Martin, Boise, Idaho; Joseph Houze (Fiancé Kate Ferrin) Colfax; Felicia Head (Austin) Frankfort, Chynna Fry-Martin (Andrew) Indianapolis; Ted Fry (Fiancé Alaina Orchard) Lafayette, Eliza Fry, Indianapolis; Zane Kane (Natsuki) Osaka, Japan; Cade Kane, West Lafayette; Kean Kane, West Lafayette. Step-grandchildren Justin Houze, William Houze and Kristina Knipp, Frankfort. Preceded in death, granddaughter Sara Fry.
Also surviving are great-grandchildren Drew, Sam, Max, Jordan, Alivia, Greyson, Abigail, Edward, Robert, Madison, Hannah, Aiden, Payton, Eli and Greta.
She was preceded in death by 6 brothers and 7 sisters.
Friends may call at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 535 West State Street, West Lafayette from 1:00 PM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 PM Friday October 13, Fr. Steve Kuhlmann officiating. The interment will follow in St. Boniface Cemetery, Lafayette. Memorials may be made to the St. Thomas Aquinas Haiti Fund. Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Lafayette is caring for the Linder family.
