Joshua Groeber

Joshua Richard Groeber, 41, of Lafayette, passed away unexpectedly Friday afternoon July 29, 2022. Josh was born in Litchfield, IL on March 27, 1981, the son of Richard W. “Rich” Groeber and Donna J. (Butcher) Groeber. He moved with his parents to Lafayette in 1983 from Litchfield. He attended Glen Acres Elementary, Sunnyside Middle School and was a 2000 graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School, playing football for Sunnyside and Jefferson High until his Junior year. Josh attended Vincennes University for Fire Science and Public Safety. He was diagnosed with MS in his early twenties, which he has battled ever since. Josh married his high school sweetheart, Rachel A. Zimpelman, in Lafayette on November 1, 2008, and she survives. Josh has been employed at his parent’s business, Hahn-Groeber Funeral Homes as a funeral director’s assistant since 2006. He loved deer and bird hunting, St. Louis Cardinal Baseball, Purdue Basketball and gardening with his daughter, Olivia. Surviving with his wife, Rachel is their daughter Olivia, whom he cherished; his parents, Rich and Donna Groeber of Lafayette; his sister, Nicole E. Davids of Evansville, IN; his paternal grandmother, Violet Groeber Cook of Terre Haute, IN; two aunts, Beverly Williams (Jimmie) of Terre Haute and Vicki Strohm (Joe) of Melhville, MO and an uncle, Don Butcher of Fairfirld, CA along with six nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by all of his grandparents, except his grandmother, Violet. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Thursday August 4. The funeral service will be held at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Lafayette at 10:30 AM Friday August 5, Fr. Jeff Martin and Fr. Dennis Faker officiating, with interment following in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
