John H. Siemers, 79, of Lafayette passed away at 7:50 p.m. on Sunday May 7, 2017 at his residence due to complications from a stroke. He was born September 1, 1937 in Lafayette, Indiana to the late Herman “Dutch” and Alice Keller Siemers.
A lifetime resident of Lafayette he was a graduate of Lafayette Jefferson High School class of 1955. Early in his career, John worked at Aluminum Company of America. He then attended trade school and became a member of the Plumbers and Steamfitters Union Local #157 until retiring in 1999. John was a former Scout Master for Troop #303 at St. Boniface, member of the Indiana National Guard and a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church.
John is survived by his wife of 57 years, Karen Sue Collins Siemers; children, Kimberly Siemers of Lafayette, Robert (wife: Judy) Siemers of Lafayette, and James (wife: Kerri) Siemers of Lafayette; sister: Alida (husband: Ronald) Siemers Widner of Massillon, Ohio; brother, David (wife: Elaine) Siemers; grandchildren, Samantha Johnston, Caleigh Siemers, Stephanie Siemers, and Chase Siemers.
In addition to his siblings, John is preceded in death by his brother, Thomas (wife: Debbie) Siemers formerly of Rochester, Michigan.
John enjoyed a variety of hobbies including target shooting, woodworking, glass artistry, genealogy, and vacationing with his family. He also enjoyed being a spectator at his grandchildren’s many sporting events.
The Siemers family wishes to express our appreciation to our church family, friends, physicians, Franciscan Health Hospice, caregivers, and volunteers for the selfless love and support they gave John during his illness.
Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 1916 Meharry St. in Lafayette from 10:30 AM until the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM Saturday May 13, Fr. Eric Underwood officiating. The interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes mass dedications in John’s name or donations to St. Lawrence Catholic Church located in Lafayette, Indiana.
