John David Lester, 62 of Lafayette, was found deceased at his residence Sunday January 13, 2019 of an apparent heart attack. He was born in Lafayette, IN December 11, 1956, the son of Imogene “Jean” Halsema Lester and the late Bernard P. Lester. John was a graduate of McCutcheon High School, class of 1976, and served in the U.S. Navy from Sept. 1976 until Sept. 1980. He married Kathleen M. “Kathy” Peters in Lafayette October 17, 1997 and she preceded him in death October 27, 2017. John was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church, and enjoyed gardening, fishing, boating collecting glass marbles and most of all spending time with his grandchildren. For the past several years, he was employed as a machinist for Lafayette Quality Products. Surviving with his mother, Imogene “Jean” Lester of Lafayette are three daughters, Tristan L. Lester of Greenwood, IN; Kathryn Klimaszewski (husband Brian) of Whitestown, IN; Karla Gillam (husband Scott) of Lafayette, IN and a sister, Paula Taylor (husband Ted) of West Point, IN. Also surviving are 6 grandchildren, Paul J., Jon L., Peter M. and Adam Klimaszewski and Kristine E. and Anthony T. Gillam. He was preceded in death by his father, Bernard P. Lester and a brother, Randall Lester. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from 4 until 7 PM Thursday Jan. 17. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Ann’s Catholic Church 10:30 AM Friday Jan. 18, Fr. Dominic Young officiating, with interment in St. Boniface Cemetery with American Legion Post 11 graveside rites.
