John Jones

J. Michael "Mike" Jones, 56, of West Lafayette, died at St. Elizabeth Central 11:20 PM Tuesday June 29, 2010. Mike was born in Indianapolis November 10, 1953 to John Paul and Patricia Ann Wright Jones. He was a graduate of Hamilton Southeastern High School and received his Bachelors degree from Purdue University in management. Mike married Elizabeth A. "Beth" Pica in Lafayette August 22, 1987, and she survives. He was a member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church; the John Purdue Club; served as a coach for the Greater Lafayette Recreational Soccer League; was a coach for the West Lafayette Little League; a coach for St. Lawrence Grade School basketball; a Crisis Center Volunteer; and was an avid New York Yankees baseball fan. Mike had worked for 35 years as a crew chief for project teams at Purdue University. Surviving with his wife is his mother, Patricia Ann Jones of Fishers, IN.; a daughter, Maureen E. Jones of West Lafayette, IN.; 2 sons, Patrick I. and Kevin N. Jones, both of West Lafayette, IN.; 4 brothers, Robert Jones of Metamora, IN.; James Jones (wife Maura) of Mirandola, Italy; Thomas Jones of Fishers, IN.; and William Jones (wife Stacy) of Indianapolis, IN. and a sister Mary Elizabeth Smith (husband Greg) of Carmel, IN. He was preceded in death by his father. Friends may call at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, corner of 19th and Meharry Sts. in Lafayette from 5 until 8 PM Tuesday. Mass of Christian Burial 10:30 AM Wednesday at St. Lawrence Church, Fr. Dan Gartland officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
