John Layden Griffin, 91, of West Point, IN passed away at Creasy Springs Healthcare in Lafayette Thursday Sept. 21, 2017 at 3:45 PM where he had resided the past four years. He was born in Lafayette, IN October 5, 1925, the son of the late Harvey A. and Elizabeth Layden Griffin and was a graduate of West Point High School. John was a member of the U.S. Army during World War II, serving in the Battle of the Bulge. He married Lelia Mae Crane at St. Francis Xavier Church in Attica, IN October 26, 1946, and she preceded him in death March 16, 2014. John was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Lafayette and was a former member of both American Legion Post 11 and VFW Post 1154 of Lafayette. He was a retired farmer, enjoyed Big 10 Basketball, especially Purdue University, and anything to do with farming. Surviving is a daughter, Suzanne Crum (Gerald) of West Point, IN; a son, John Roger Griffin of Lafayette; by two grandsons, Jason S. and Robby J. “Rob” Reppert; and by three great-grandchildren, Kayla, Zachary and Emme Reppert. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Charles and Joe Griffin and by four sisters, Margaret Rogers, Alice Weaver, Teresa Haffner and Frances Wise. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette from11:00 AM until the funeral at 1:00 PM Tuesday Sept. 26, Fr. Ambrose Ziegler officiating.
