John W. “Jack” Blankman, 80, of Oxford, IN died at Franciscan St. Elizabeth East Hospital in Lafayette 6:54 AM Thursday December 29, 2016 where he had been a patient since December 19. Jack was born in Benton County November 23, 1936, the son of the late August Herman and Florence I. Childers Blankman and was a graduate of Oxford High School. He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 until 1957 as a cryptanalyst. Jack married Yvonne E. Shidler at St. Patrick’s Church in Oxford August 13, 1983, and she survives. He was a member of St. Patrick’s Church; enjoyed geneology research on the Blankman family and watching Purdue basketball and Colts football. Jack was an avid reader, especially westerns and suspense stories and was a member of the Christmas Golf Elves. He was the former owner of Ever Green Lawn Care of Oxford from 1982 until 1994, retiring in 1994. Surviving beside his wife are four sons, Jeffrey M. Blankman of Monticello, IN; Barry A. Blankman (Melissa) of Lafayette, IN; Scott E. Blankman (Reetta) of West Lafayette; Tim M Blankman (Cathy) of Lafayette and a brother Don Blankman of Oxford, IN. Also surviving are17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a brother, Art, and by three sisters, Lois, Helen and Mary. The Rosary will be recited at 3:45 PM Wednesday January 4, followed by visitation until 7:00 PM at St. Patricks Church in Oxford. The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Patrick’s at 12:00 PM on Thursday January 5, with visitation one hour prior, Fr. Robert Klemme officiating. The interment will follow in Oxford Catholic Cemetery with American Legion military rites.
