Jeanne Funcheon Bohnke, age 88, passed away Sunday, November 27, 2016 in Bedford, IN.
She was born on April 20, 1928 in Alexandria, VA. Jeanne graduated from the Philadelphia School of Nursing as a registered nurse and worked many years at Home Hospital in Lafayette, IN.
Jeanne was a member of St. Mary’s Cathedral from 1950-1982. She was an active member of the community of Lafayette and was involved as a Cub Scout leader, the head of many St. Mary’s women’s groups, seamstress for Columbian Park Children’s Theater & Central Catholic High School plays, and a well-loved friend to many people. If anyone had a hurt child in the South 22nd St. neighborhood, that child would be brought to Jeanne to be checked out. An expert dog trainer, Jeanne enjoyed showing her Shetland Sheepdogs (Shelties) in AKC obedience shows. She raised her six children in the best fashion imaginable; she was a wonderful seamstress, cook, and organizer. Jeanne loved Shelties, camping, musicals, and traveling.
Jeanne married Robert Funcheon on June 3, 1950, in Lafayette, IN and raised 6 children who went on to be very successful adults. Bob passed away on September 25, 1973. On December 26, 1982, Jeanne married John Bohnke with whom she traveled the world and enjoyed their marriage and friendship so much. John passed away on November 8, 2010.
Jeanne is survived by her daughters, Gloria (GJ) Funcheon, Bedford, IN, Carol Cirtin (husband Tom), Otterbein, IN, Chris Beuerlein (husband Bob), Phoenix, AZ, and sons, Jim Funcheon (wife Cindy), Johnston, IA, John Funcheon (wife Jessica), Noblesville,IN, much loved grandchildren Matt, Brad, & Ryan Greives, Jessica Keisling, Rob Beuerlein, Austin and Cassie Funcheon, Aubrey Price, and Aleah Funcheon, and great granddaughters Kaylee Belle, Zoe, and Kennedy. Her son, Tim, passed away on October 15, 2015.
Visitation will be from 1:00 PM until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 PM Friday, December 9, 2016 at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, 1104 Columbia St., Lafayette, Fr. Gerald Borawski officiating. The interment will follow in St. Mary Cemetery in Lafayette.
