Janet Payne

Janet K. Payne, 80, of Fowler, IN, was reunited with her family and Christ in Heaven on Thursday, February 3, 2022, at 5:30 AM. She was born in Danville, IL, on March 22, 1941, the daughter of the late Robert M. and Elizabeth J. (Schuff) Layden. Janet was a Wellington, IL High School graduate and attended Lincoln Bible Institute in Lincoln, IL, and Millikin University in Decatur, IL, majoring in music. She married Sidney L. Payne at the Prairie Green Church of Christ in Hoopeston, IL, on June 10, 1961. She loved music and taught piano in their home. Janet was an active member of the Fowler Christian Church for many years, where she often played piano. She worked for the State of Indiana Child Welfare Office, Fowler Elementary, and their family business, G.E.M., on the Purdue campus, often known lovingly as "Momma Payne." Jan's favorite role was as a loving grandmother to her precious grandchildren, all of whom she adored. Surviving with her husband are two sons, Timothy A. (Cindy) and Todd M. (Danielle), of Oxford, IN, and her daughter, Loribeth A. Hettinger (Jeff) of Remington, IN, and a son-in-law, Robert James "Rob" Hickman, of Owasso, OK; a brother, Richard A. "Ric" Layden (Marj) of Hoopeston, IL; and eight grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Robin E. Hickman of Owasso, OK, and brother, Robert T. Layden Jr of Hoopeston, IL. Friends may call at the Hahn-Groeber Funeral Home, Oxford, IN, from 10:00 AM until the service at 11:00 AM Friday, February 11, 2022, Mr. Don Roberts officiating.
